Stephen Hough is widely regarded as one of the most important and distinctive pianists of his generation. In 2008 his recording of the complete Saint-Saens Piano Concertos was names the most popular recording of the past 30 years at the Classic FM Gramaphone Awards. He also recently opened the 2009 BBC Proms season, performing Tchaikovsky's lesser known Piano Concerto No.3.

This recital is about counterpoint: not so much within the pieces (despite the two fugues), but between them.

'The most perfect piano playing conceivable' The Guardian

This concert celebrates important anniversaries of the composer's.
