CASUAL HOSPITALITY STAFF
RG2 (SCP 11) £8.19 per hour
Casual work including weekends and evenings
As part of Reading Arts and Venues, The Hexagon theatre is looking to recruit new members of casual staff in preparation for its busy season of events starting in September. A number of positions are being offered on a casual basis to compliment the current team of Hospitality staff that takes pride in looking after the safety and enjoyment of the thousands of theatre patrons who visit each year.
Mainly evenings (usually from 6.30pm onwards) and weekends, with occasional day shifts for matinees, children’s shows and Pantomime as determined by the programme of events. Rotas are prepared four weeks in advance around the requirements of theatre events and the availability of casual employees.
The position offers a range of duties such as bar and café work, selling programmes and merchandise, and preparing the theatre for upcoming events.
Duties involve preparing and serving food and drinks, stock and cash handling, cleaning and organising areas after service and representing The Hexagon as part of the Front of House team when providing information and assistance to customers. Employees are required to be flexible when it comes to working at different sales point around the venue.
The position would suit anyone who enjoys a social role, has an eye for detail and is passionate about delivering outstanding customer service with a smile. With theatre work, timing and presentation are of the essence so all staff must have the ability to work well under pressure as well as a pro-active and outgoing manner.
Previous experience in the hospitality sector is preferred but not essential as full training will be provided.
The Council is committed to paying a Living Wage to staff. The Living Wage is currently £8.45 per hour. If appointed to a spinal point with an hourly rate of less that £8.45, a supplement will be paid to staff to bring the salary up to that amount. The supplement is at the discretion of the Council and can be changed or withdrawn at any time in the future.
