In Good Hands by Catherine Ireton

Venue: Sitelines (Directions)

Sat 2 Jul

Advisory age: 12+

Part of South Street's SITELINES festival, in association with Reading 2016, Reading College & Activate Learning.

In Good Hands is a site specific show of stories and songs inspired by the world of hairdressers - of secrets, trust and our human need to share and connect. Taking place in a working hair salon, the show will be performed for a small audience in Reading College's professionally run Graduate Salon.

An audience of 30 people are invited to their ‘appointment’ at the salon where hairdresser Julie makes them feel very much at home. Amongst them is Lisa, who has come in the hope that she can be squeezed in. Over the next 60 minutes – the time it takes for a wash, cut and blow dry - a story of small dramas unfolds, through a series of 7 extraordinary, original songs performed by Catherine Ireton and Grace Kiely,

In Good Hands explores what happens when you spend time in close contact with another person and the things we tell complete strangers given the opportunity. In Tokyo hairdressers are trained to look out for signs of suicide and in Africa they are trained as aids councillors. Why is it that people tell their hairdresser things they wouldn’t even tell their best friend?

Catherine Ireton returns to Reading following her previous visit to The Hexagon with her “backstage” show ‘What Is It About That Night?’.

Location: Reading College Graduate Salon, Kings Road, RG1 4HJ
