SAINT-SAENS
Carnival of the Animals

Katia and Marielle Labèque’s performance at The Concert Hall last season earned a standing ovation, so we are delighted to welcome them back to The Hexagon. They will be joined by principal players of The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, for a French programme finishing with the magnificent Carnival of the Animals. Since their creation just over two decades ago, when a group of London musicians decided to throw out the ‘rulebook’ and start again, the OAE has shocked, changed and mesmerised the music world.

Mr Selfridge actor, Samuel West, will join Katia, Marielle & The OAE to narrate Carnival of the Animals. Best known for his TV roles in Howards End, Eternal Law, The Chronicles of Narnia and of course, Mr Selfridge, Samuel also enjoys working with musicians. As a reciter he has appeared with all the major British Orchestras. In 2002 he performed Walton's Henry V at The Last Night of the Proms. For this concert, he will recite verse by Ogden Nash.
