Jazz at the Town Hall: Gwilym Simcock, Solo Piano

Book Now
Gwilym Simcock

Tuesday 21 May, 7:30pm

One of the most gifted pianists and imaginative composers on the British scene, Gwilym is able to move effortlessly between jazz and classical music. He can, at times, inhabit both worlds and has been described as stylistically reminiscent of Keith Jarrett. Gwilym’s influences include jazz legends Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea and John Taylor and classical composers Maurice Ravel and Igor Stravinsky. He plays in a wide variety of jazz and classical ensembles and orchestras, but in this concert he will be performing solo, as so impressively demonstrated on what John Fordham in the Guardian described as his ‘awesome solo debut’ album, Good Days at Schloss Elmau.

‘Gwilym’s an original. A creative genius.’ Chick Corea
‘Gwilym Simcock’s prodigious creations on the piano straddle the border between classical and jazz to mesmerising effect...a stupendous improviser and a remarkable musician all round.’ Observer
