Town HallJonathan Gee Trio
Wednesday 14 November, 7.30pm Jonathan Gee Trio Jonathan Gee leads three acoustic trios, an electric fusion trio and is co-founder with Tony Kofi of a highly acclaimed tribute band to Thelonius Monk. After working extensively on the London Jazz scene in the 1990s, he was voted Most Promising Newcomer of the Year at the British Jazz Awards. Subsequently he formed his own trio and became virtually resident at Ronnie Scott’s. For this gig, Jonathan will be working with Larry Bartley and Ernesto Simpson. Larry has become one of the most sought-after bass players on the London jazz scene, working and recording with top musicians such as Courtney Pine, Denys Baptiste and Byron Wallen. Ernesto Simpson on drums is a unique talent from Cuba, via New York, where his musical upbringing was influenced by a complexity of styles of African, Afro-Cuban and South American rhythms. ‘He is one of European jazz's most celebrated musicians. His music is precise, lucid and original, and at times breathtakingly lyrical.’ Visions of Britain Reading Arts and Jazz in Reading are delighted to present a brand new season of jazz concerts at Reading’s magnificent Town Hall venue. The concerts will feature internationally renowned jazz artists and bands in a superb setting. This exciting season is being run alongside a complementary season of concerts at Progress Theatre, Reading.
