Each Sunday throughout the exhibition Inside - Artists and Writers in Reading Prison Oscar Wilde’s extended letter to his lover, Lord Alfred Douglas, the harrowing De Profundis, will be read live in the former prison chapel.

Ticket information

Tickets £20, maximum 2 per booking

Admission is by ticket only.  Please bring your ticket with you and a form of photo ID.  The reading will begin at 12 noon and will last approximately 4½ hours with one 15-minute interval.  

Ticket also gives admission to the rest of the exhibition from 11am onwards until 5pm.  

There are no refreshments available in the prison but toilet facilities are provided.  No photography or filming is permitted during the reading.

Venue info

The Chapel HM Prison Reading

Reading Prison is located on Forbury Road, Reading, Berkshire RG1 3HY. There are public car parks nearby and Forbury Road is served by orange buses 13 and 14. Reading station is a five-minute walk from the prison and trains run from London Paddington every 15-20 minutes throughout the day, with an average journey time of 30 minutes.
