HM Prison Reading opens for the first time to the public as artists, writers and performers respond to its most notorious inmate, Oscar Wilde. 

At this resonant site, the penal regime Wilde suffered is explored through archive material and the installation of new works by artists such as Nan Goldin, Marlene Dumas, and Steve McQueen.

 

Ticket information

Tickets £9 adults, £7 concessions, £2 children under 18. 
National Art Pass/Art Fund Member (cardholder only - card must be presented on entry) £6 - maximum 1 ticket per booking.
Further group concessions available.
Admission is timed and by ticket only.  Please bring your ticket with you and arrive just before or within your one-hour time slot.

The prison opening times are:

Wednesdays and Thursdays 11am – 7pm

Fridays and Saturdays 11am – 8pm

Sundays 11am – 5pm

Please note for bookings made for the final hour that the prison will close at the end of that hour

General admission tickets for Sunday 16 October will include a reading of De Profundis by Colm Toíbín

Reading Prison is located on Forbury Road, Reading, Berkshire RG1 3HY. There are public car parks nearby and Forbury Road is served by orange buses 13 and 14.  Reading station is a five-minute walk from the prison and trains run from London Paddington every 15-20 minutes throughout the day, with an average journey time of 30 minutes.
