Handel Messiah

Henley Choral Society

Venue: The Concert Hall (Directions)

Sat 23 Mar, 19:30

The successful Henley Choral Society has made Handel's Messiah its centrepiece for 2019.

Conducted by Peter Asprey, the multi-talented and in demand conductor, chorus master and singer the choir will be joined by a full orchestra and soloists to be announced shortly.

The love affair that classical music audiences have with this oratorio is phenomenal, premiered in Dublin in 1742, it has been performed by choirs across Britain every year since at least 1745.

Handel composed Messiah in 1741 and continued to work on it after its initial performance, finally arriving at the version we know today in 1754.

Impressive solo arias, interspersed with compelling chorus numbers, tell the story of Jesus' birth, life, death, resurrection, and final victory over sin and death.
