KALAKUNJ present

Krishna: The Mythological Hero

Venue: South Street (Directions)

Sat 5 May, 18:30

KALAKUNJ, a community-based performing arts group, has been engaged in Heritage Lottery Fund project KRISHNA: The Mythological Hero exploring Krishna as interpreted in Indian classical dance, music, literature and philosophy. KALAKUNJ has highlighted the artistic, aesthetic and philosophical aspects of Krishna through library and museums' visits, seminar, workshops and performances and upheld the heritage of 'Bhakti' or love and devotion in art and culture. KALAKUNJ aims to encourage and support people's interest for traditional art forms from South Asia and enhance the scope of South Asian dance in the community in Reading and beyond.

The evening will feature a screening of a documentary on the project and its activities undertaken over the past one year along with Indian classical dance performances by the students of KALAKUNJ, Aabha Sharma and Deeya Dasgupta (Kathak) and Lakshmi Srinivasan (Bharatanatyam).
