Dances of Galanta

Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini

Symphony No.7

Join the nations' favourite orchestra for an evening of orchestral gems, beginning with Kodaly's enchanting Dances of Galanta, a musical tour of the composers' native Hungary, featuring the folk melodies that helped form its musical identity.

The centrepiece of this evening's performance is Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, a devilishly technical and lavishly expressive work, performed by soloist Clare Hammond. Then follows Beethoven's incredible Symphony No.7, noted for the simplicity and intensity of the second movement as the melody unfolds into a climax of awe-inspiring power. Throughout the symphony are dance-like rhythms, creating an uplifting and infectious sense of joy to end the 2019-2020 Hexagon season.
